Four stages that follow us everywhere: In business, careers, projects, and product launches

I once came across Patreon's Creator Mindset Map, a thing that illustrates the stages creators go through on their way to success. It struck me: this map isn't just for artists, streamers, or Patreon users. These stages are universal to anyone launching a project, product, or business.

There are four stages: Bubbling Enthusiasm, Burnout, Reactivation, and Euphoria. They don't necessarily occur in order — one may follow another repeatedly, or some stages may be skipped altogether.

Bubbling Enthusiasm

Imagine that Joanne, an entrepreneur, decides to launch a new line of cosmetics. She's bubbling with excitement: she tells everyone about her idea; she dreams of taking the market by storm; her preparations are in full swing — she feels like there aren't enough hours in the day, and no challenge seems insurmountable.

Best strategy for this stage:

  • Embrace the energy and optimism.
  • Promote yourself and your product without apology.
  • Share your thoughts and vision with the world.
  • Allow yourself to believe in a bright future, in yourself and in your product.

Burnout

But then... the production chain breaks down. Bloggers are reluctant to work for barter, and those who do sabotage the process. Costs skyrocket. Friends get tired of hearing about plans. Nothing works. Nothing helps. Joanne feels exhausted and hopeless. She knows how things are supposed to work, but she can't figure out the next steps to fix the situation. It's scary, confusing, and lonely.

Best strategy for this stage:

  • Don't beat yourself up for feeling stuck.
  • Allow yourself to feel frustration and anger about the situation.
  • Use this low point to gain insight.
  • Identify small, simple next steps — starting today — that can gradually move you out of burnout.
  • Find a psychological anchor (a song, conversation, movie, quote, or piece of art) to remind you that burnout is temporary.

Reactivation

Joanne gathers her courage and keeps going. She takes things one step at a time, testing and adjusting as she goes. Her pace may not match the frenzy of the Enthusiasm stage, but she's making steady progress. There is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

Best strategy for this stage:

  • Work at a comfortable pace.
  • Stay focused and determined.
  • Dream, wish and act without hesitation.
  • Immerse yourself in the project and give it your all.

Euphoria

Finally, the hard work of the Reactivation phase pays off. The cosmetics line is launched, promotions are successful, and sales grow. Joanne becomes known as the creator of a modern eco-brand, is invited to interviews, and is offered investments to scale.

This becomes a triumphant self-motivation. Positive feedback from the world fuels Joanne's ambitions, inspiring her to set even bigger goals and achieve them with renewed drive.

Meanwhile, the cycle is preparing to move to another stage — but a whole new level.

Best strategy for this phase:

  • Enjoy in your success and celebrate your accomplishments.
  • Remember that hard work got you here.
  • Don't shy away from success or monetization.
  • Give yourself a little break.
  • Dream big and keep moving forward.

These stages are inevitable in any business. Understanding them and knowing how to navigate through each can help you stay the course, overcome challenges and fully enjoy your accomplishments.
